Leyden High Schools Makerspace

What is a Makerspace?

A makerspace is a dedicated place where students can go to create, invent, tinker and explore, using a variety of tools and materials. This allows students to explore their individual interests and fosters curiosity of new interests. A makerspace gives our students and teachers an opportunity to enhance what they’re doing in the classroom, but also a chance to use and learn new tools and equipment like 3D printers, vinyl cutters, robotics, audio and video equipment, and design software. We chose to house the makerspace in the library because these are democratic spaces not tied to any course or department.

How can I support the Leyden Makerspace?

You can help in different ways.

  • As a student you can use the makerspace for academic purposes.
  • As a teacher you can commit to incorporate the makerspace into your lessons.
  • As a community member and stakeholder, we need donations of supplies on an ongoing basis. These could be household items, like cardboard and hardware, or something from your business that could support making at Leyden.
